We learned about the concepts of multiplication. The connecting idea of repeated addition to multiplication was made for the pupils in this hands on activity .
2 + 2 + 2 + 2+ 2+ 2 = 6 groups of 2
= 6 x 2
Pupils also need to know teh different between 5 x 4 and 4 x 5 .
I used the acronym
GET to help them in crafting their multiplication equation :
GROUP x No. of items in EACH group = TOTAL

A pupil in the class used the link cubes to represent the multiplication equation this way. After a chat with him. the concept of groupings and number of items was reinforced and he showed the groupings concept again below his whiteboard . |
