Multiplication

We learned about the concepts of multiplication. The connecting idea of repeated addition to multiplication was made for the pupils in this hands on activity .

2 + 2 + 2 + 2+ 2+ 2 = 6 groups of 2
                                = 6 x 2

Pupils also need to know teh different between 5 x 4 and 4 x 5 .

I used the acronym GET to help them in crafting their multiplication equation :

GROUP x No. of items in EACH group = TOTAL  

A pupil in the class used the link cubes to represent the multiplication  equation this way. After a chat with him. the concept of groupings and number of items was reinforced and he showed the groupings concept again below his whiteboard . 

Pupils were taught the difference of 5 x 4 and 4 x 5 in the class.

A Butterfly is Born

The pupils were learning from a STELLAR book "A butterfly is Born" . 

Here are some photos of our pupils who bought the caterpillar kits and manage to care for the caterpillars till they transformed into butterfly.

We went to the Science Eco garden to release Lucas' butterfly. But it was not ready to fly so we kept it in class till it is ready. What a great learning process for the pupils,

P1 December Holiday Math Project

The pupils did a December Holiday Math project when they were in P1.

Term 1 Top Achievers for Class 123

Here are the winners for the Top Achievers for Term 1 Class 123.
There were some ties in the points so instead of top 10 winners, we have 15 pupils achieving  the highest scores. Keep up the good work!

Field Based Learning to National Orchid Garden

We went to the National Orchid Garden for our Social Studies learning today. 
The pupils learned information about orchid hybrid and visited the VIP Garden where orchids were named after important people who have visited Singapore. 

We also went into the Misthouse. 

The highlight was going inside the Coolhouse,

Information from the Botanical Gardens Website : 

The Cool House mimics a tropical highland cloud forest, where naturalistic man-made trees and rocks are draped with a profusion of spectacular cool-growing orchids, carnivorous plants and other cool-growing plants. The orchid species in the cool house are grouped based on their origin, either from the Old World (mainly Asia and Africa) or the New World (mainly Central and South America). Tropical highland cloud forests have a cool climate and high rainfall year round, hence, the simulation of cool air, drifting mist and rushing torrent provide a highly realistic representation of high elevation sites in the tropics and will make for an unforgettable experience.

Special thanks to Kiefer's mummy who came along with us as a parent volunteer. 

We all had a fun and enriching time. Let's look forward to our next outing in Semester 2.
